About

Jim has dedicated his life to making life better in the East Bay, and he’s always been a champion for environmental protection and strong fiscal oversight.

He served as a Council Member on the Alameda City Council for six years from 2014-2020, and as a senior staffer for now-Attorney General Rob Bonta. A leader on fiscal accountability and transparency, Jim previously served as the first Chair of the Alameda City’s Open Government Commission and worked to keep Alameda Hospital open and financially sustainable.

Jim has a long history of climate leadership and support for working people. As a City Councilmember, Jim expanded shoreline access for all residents, developed new parks, increased tenant protections, and ended “no cause” evictions.

Throughout his career, Jim has solved problems by working together with all stakeholders to find common ground and implement real solutions. That’s what he did as a council member and as a legislative staffer, and what he will do as an EBMUD Director.
